I eat out a lot, definitely more than I should. I’m one of those annoying people taking pictures of my food, my drinks, everything. Don’t touch anything til I get my shot! Haha. Sometimes I share these photos on Instagram (@riamichelle) and sometimes I don’t. I’ve amassed quite the little collection of food shots now and rather than waste them, I figured I’d share them here. I’m often asked for recommendations when people come to town and this way I can just direct them here. To kick things off here’s a couple of spots I’ve hit in the past few months.
Chillbar (Hollywood, FL): This spot is only a 5 minute drive from my place so obviously that’s a win. It’s located at the Yellow Green Farmer’s Market which is my favorite farmer’s market. They serve brunch on Saturday’s and Sunday’s from til 4 pm another win because I like to sleep in. You definitely should make a reservation otherwise you will wait as my girlfriend’s and I did. The drinks are supposedly amazing, they had temporarily lost their liquor license when we went. They made us makeshift versions with wine we purchased from a nearby booth. I ordered the Fabulous French Toast Supreme. It consists of Challah bread soaked in a mixture of organic eggs, pure vanilla, cinnamon, and freshly grated nutmeg, served with caramelized bananas, organic butter & 100% maple syrup. It’s pure delicious decadence. We also ordered a side of turkey bacon (I’m generally anti turkey bacon) so good, we ordered a second round.
Love Is Blind (Coral Gables, FL): Craig and I met up with my fellow blogger Nicholl in the Gables. This is farther than I like to travel for brunch, just because there’s guaranteed to be traffic. They had a great unlimited mimosa special because they had recently opened. Nicholl and I definitely took advantage of it. My Prosciutto and Pesto Foccacia Airbag appetizer was my absolute favorite thing. I would go back just for that. I popped my Chicken N’ Waffles cherry and got a double dose of bacon because Craig doesn’t eat pork. I’d never gotten the hype until I took my leftovers home (stuffed on the foccacia) and woke up from a nap and ate them. Now I totally get it.
Swank Southern Kitchen (Davie, FL): This place is a really close to my place as well. A friend of mine from high school checked in on foursquare and my phone alerted me for some weird reason. So glad it did. This photo is of Craig’s food because mine wasn’t photo worthy womp womp. He got their Blue Chicken & Waffles which he devoured. Pure elation. I want to try their regular Chicken & Waffles with marshmallow sage sauce…I’m intrigued. I had the Short Rib Meatleaf which was okay. I should have followed my instincts and gone with the 18 Hour Pulled Pork Sliders. I’m actually afraid to go again, because there’s so much I want to try.I’m too indecisive. They also do brunch so I really need to get on this stat!
The Sybarite Pig (Boca Raton, FL): I’m rarely this far north, but I was starved and I wanted something good and different. I got on Yelp and this spot seemed interesting enough. I got the Korean Shortrib (yassss), the Mac n’ Cheese and a bottle of Weihenstephaner Vitus. I’m not a huge beer drinker but occasionally I’ll have one. The waiter recommended it to me when I asked for something light. The banana and citrus flavors were light and refreshing. I STILL regret not getting Kimchi. What is wrong with me?! Instead I got the mac n cheese side which was good but not anything special. Craig ordered the Wagyu Duck Fat Burger (of course, he lovesss burgers). This is another spot where the menu is so interesting and there’s so much I want to try. I really wish this spot was closer to me.
So that’s that. I was kind of all over South Florida on this one. In the future, I’ll probably do restaurants on more of an individual basis.
