So completely last minute (Monday, November 29 2010) I found out that fashion designer Manish Arora collaborated with Nespresso and they were hosting a runway fashion show that night. I absolutely love coffee and I love good design, this would be perfect for me. So of course I grabbed my camera and high tailed it to Lincoln Road Mall to the Nespresso boutique to see the runway show. Luckily I was able to get into the event (thank you to everyone that made that happen). I walked into the boutique (I’d never been) and the boutique itself is so aesthetically pleasing. I could totally kill a day there no problem and in fact plan to visit very soon to try out the two Nespresso Grand Crus that I acquired.
Nespresso will be doing an annual collaboration with designers called N-Art. Distinctive design is a strong point for the Nespresso brand so to mix art and design is simply natural. The designers will be showcasing their interpretation of the brand. Manish Arora is the first designer that was chosen. The selected artists and designers will be creating window displays, and limited edition products. Can I just say I was so sad I wasn’t eligible for the giveaway of the limited edition espresso machine. Total heartbreak. I’ve been on the hunt for an espresso machine and no other will compare now to the Manish Arora design. In any case, I absolutely cannot wait to find out who will be the next artist.
Manish has a very avant-garde style as you can see in the photos in the gallery (also on my Flickr account you’ll see the backs of the dress and detail shots) below. He makes great use of embroidery, bold colors and unique materials. For Nespresso, Manish created a fairy tale populated by 16 princesses to represent the 16 Nespresso Grand Crus of course. Each princess (model) had a strong and unique story coming down the runway (as told by emcee Amanda Harris). This may have been my favorite show that I’ve seen in Miami yet. Actually no it definitely has been my favorite show I’ve seen since moving here. Very well done and exciting. If you have a local Nespresso Boutiques definitely make your way there because through January 2011 Manish Arora’s designs will be on display and they are so beautiful. I promise it’ll be a real treat.
Final walkthrough video, had a little camera fumble moment haha. I really need to practice messing with the video functions so I can do quick switches better. I always press the capture button instead of the start/stop button which results in a stutter in my video. In any case, I know I love to see things in motion so enjoy. 🙁
