I’ve wanted to go to Cirque du Soleil for a while now. I’m so happy to be able to check this off my bucket list. In the spirit of sharing is caring I’m also giving away two tickets to you my lovely local readers! I’m so happy that Amaluna will be my first Cirque show as it’s a celebration of love and a tribute to the work and voice of women. It’s also the first time in Cirque du Soleil’s history that the cast will comprise of 70% women, with a 100% all-female band. There’s also the added moon focus, it’s an all around win. Read on below for more about the show and details on how to win tickets. 🙂
Amaluna invites the audience to a mysterious island governed by Goddesses and guided by the cycles of the moon. Their queen, Prospera, directs her daughter’s coming-of-age ceremony in a rite that honors femininity, renewal, rebirth and balance which marks the passing of these insights and values from one generation to the next.
In the wake of a storm caused by Prospera, a group of young men washes ashore the island, triggering an epic and emotional story of love between Prospera’s daughter and a brave young suitor. But theirs is a love that will be put to the test and the couple must face numerous demanding trials before they can achieve mutual trust, faith and harmony.
Amaluna is a fusion of the words ama, which refers to “mother” in many languages, and luna, which means “moon”; a symbol of femininity that evokes both the mother-daughter relationship and the idea of goddess and protector of the planet. Amaluna is also the name of the mysterious island where this magical story unfolds.

My favorite thing about women is our power through appearance. Nothing brings a man down to his knees like a gorgeous woman. Nothing makes a woman feel more confident than good hair and a red lip!

My favorite things about women and actually being one is that we are very powerful beings. We have the power of making every one of our desires happen if we truly believe in them. We also empower one another and I think that’s very important.

Sounds lame but the fact that we can give life. I mean, we pretty much hold the key for everyone’s existence.

Women are extremely strong and resilient. Not just physically, in terms of bearing children and going through menopause, but also mentally capable of adapting to great hardships. Now this can be seen as simply a human virtue, but I’ve seen it in so many women around me, and in the generations before me that it stands out as something special and unique to them. They’ve grown up at distinct disadvantages compared to the men around them, and instead of using these disadvantages to pity themselves and settle for less, they drive and struggle and fight for better lives.

A Salute to the power of women.
