Brand Spotlight: Petit Pois

As mentioned in my previous post at the Miami Style Awards I went backstage to do a quick interview with Viviana G the designer of Petit Pois. Petit Pois has been featured in several magazines as well as WWD. All the Petit Pois are designed using premium quality mesh. Everything is sexy without being overstated just like her use of colors and prints. Viviana is so kind and has a very infectious smile she was very easy to be around and the energy backstage was filled with organized excitement.

Why do you choose to design using mesh?
I discovered this fabric back in the 90s and when I saw it, I thought this is kind of cool. It was giving you a dressy choice without being too dressy and without being to casual. I started testing it and you can do amazing things so I took it to the next level. So now they call me “The Queen of Mesh” because I do with mesh anything that I want, pants skirts, jackets, long dresses, coverups anything.

You’re from Venezuela and you’ve gone to Parsons and pretty much worked everywhere, is being a designer in Miami different than anywhere else?
Well because I go everywhere and I sell everywhere (nationwide and internationally) for me each state has it’s own unique sense of fashion and I adapt very easily. We are very well known nationwide in California, Atlanta, Chicago there are really so many representations. Currently I’m living here in Miami, and everything is made here in Miami. We have our own plant here so I try to stick with my city and right now I’m trying to devote some more time to let everyone know where we are and who we are.

You create your own prints. Where do you get your inspiration?
I take pictures, I travel a lot in Europe. I love Monte Carlo…Paris…and I get a lot from nature, the universe. It’s all about what I see in colors and movements. I transfer them into the mesh. Right now what I brought for the show tonight is more of a transition to holiday which is very subtle. Everything that I do is for you to travel anywhere you want, it’s washable. I do an explosion of prints for Spring. So hold on, because you’re gonna see it.

What type of audience are you seeking?
My collection is ageless, it’s timeless, and it’s season-less. If you feel good with it, you are more than welcome to wear it.
