I’m hooked on Souvenir Jackets. While doing the buying for Filthy Magic I discovered this dragon embroidered masterpiece. I knew it was the one for me. This Spring is seeing quite the resurgence of this iconic style. Many high-fashion labels and streetwear brands are releasing their own variations of the style.
The souvenir jacket originated in post-war Japan as a literal souvenir for American GIs. Turned a symbol of rebellion for Japanese youths gangs and rockstars alike. The jacket may be having a moment, but it’s clear it’s a style that’s made to last.
Choosing the right one for you is key and it took me awhile to find one that fit what I wanted. The simple black and white design with an elaborate dragon design is all I didn’t know I needed. The price point helps as well, because I’ve seen some of these styles with commas in the price tags. Nightmare.
On a search for souvenir jackets or bomber jackets I’m inundated with mens styles & little to no womens. Don’t let that deter you! It’s very much a unisex piece and we should all try to live our lives with a little less gender constraints.
You can cop mine on Filthy Magic, and you can see it in action in this little video we threw together.
