Music Love’s Fashion

How many of you remember Rihanna when she looked like this? Probably not many of you, this was her debut look with her debut album “Music of the Sun”. It was alright, I wasn’t really interested. The next album “A Girl Like Me” followed and yeah I jammed along to S.O.S when it came on, I still wasn’t interested in the girl behind the song…like at all.

Then came a haircut and a complete change in styling with the album Good Girl Gone Bad. The album achieved multi-platinum success in several countries, and is Rihanna’s best selling album in the United States to date. I actually bought this album. Her style, her image was so interesting. She captivated people with this look. Everybody had the Rihanna haircut or a variation of it (even me). I was no longer offended when people said I looked like her (of course I don’t haha). Rihanna is quoted saying:

“I basically took the attitude of the bad girl and I really got rebellious and just did everything the way I wanted to do it—I didn’t want to listen to anybody. I didn’t consult with anybody. I just want to have a little more fun with my music and be a little more experimental in terms of my image and my sound. I just reinvented myself.[...] A bad girl, it’s all about the attitude that you take toward things, I’m not being careful, I’m just having fun. I’m taking risks because bad girls take risks.”

Once Rihanna took control of her image it directly reflected in her music. She’s fun, she’s edgy, she doesn’t give a you know what and you get all that when you’re dancing like mad to one of her songs or belting out a ballad. Hit after hit, Rihanna brings it musically and with her style. She’s always changing things up and keeps us wondering what she’s going to do next.

I’m glad to see the duo behind Nina Sky share my line of thinking, they were asked if they thought music/artists influence fashion trends.

Majorly, people love to listen to music and keep up with their favorite artists, from their latest videos to what they’re wearing… So of course it would influence fashion trends. Also, music inspires creativity and fashion designers are artists in their own right. I think the music they listen to ultimately helps set the tone and theme of their collections.
