A Lesson in Model Behavior

Gintare at Wilhelmina
I know I’m getting ridiculous with this Box Pleat Skater skirt but I styled this shoot long before I ever wore it on the blog. This is my version of an “end of the year recap” post. Here’s some work I did throughout the year that you may not have seen because I didn’t showcase it on the blog. Besides blogging and running an online boutique I do work as a fashion stylist when I can. It may be the toughest of all my jobs but I like the challenge. The first photo set is with Gintare. She is very much a high fashion girl and Danny Delgado (the photographer) and I wanted to commercialize her a bit.

The shots with Kayla and Annie were done by Simon Soong at TYE Studios. Sorry I don’t have high quality images, had to snag them off Facebook. The last photo set was a little shoot I did with Diana just out and about in a neighborhood nearby. Quick, easy, and fun. I think it turned out pretty chill. I’m my own worst critic so I’d love to know what you think of these looks/shoots. Happy New Year everyone and I hope it will be prosperous for us all and full of work we can get really excited about.
Thanks for sticking with my blog! ![]()

My Fox House Finds

Fox House Fringe Cut Out Blouse
Mink Pink Outrageous Fortune Cutoff Shorts
A few months ago I went to visit my friend Tobi and put together a few looks using items from her online boutique Fox House. She sells lots of sweet vintage pieces and also carries some of my favorite new brands. It’s definitely worthy of being on your short list of web shops.

This top is so cool, I love that both the back and front have fringe. Mink Pink is one of my favorite Australian brands and I immediately fell in love with these cutoffs. The print on these is sick so they’ve quickly entered rotation along with my Slasher shorts.

Rubber Ducky Backless dress
Another stellar back option. I love an exposed back, I think it’s one of the sexiest things ever. I bought this jacket right there on the spot and it’s been along for all my out of Florida travels. I don’t see it on the site so it may have sold out or not been listed yet.

Insight Bandit Dress
Mega Grey Platform Booties
This dress would look great with the aforementioned faux leather jacket or a solid colored kimono top. I also did a little interview for the Fox House blog, you can go check it out and see more photos from our little shoot.

Scenic Route To You

Karen Walker Bunny Oversized Round Sunglasses
Oh hey, I have braids now (part of my Halloween costume). I’m so excited about it. I recently went to style a low key shoot with photographer Diana Zalucky. She loveessss Polaroids. We ended up with stacks and stacks of them. I hate instagram recap posts, but I’m totally down for a Polaroid/film recap.
Lately I’ve been thinking about shooting with film just for fun, I don’t think I’m quite ready for the cost associated with Polaroids so I’m just gonna get a Fuji Instax. My only decision is whether to buy it myself or request it as a birthday present. It’ll be nice to have tangible photos sometimes. Anyway here’s a few of Diana’s favorite Polaroid shots from the shoot.

All photos are Diana Zalucky’s obviously.

California Dreamin’
I’m finally getting around to posting the editorial I did for Your Beauty Industry magazine back in April and the magazine came out in August. I love styling for magazines but I hate the wait for images.
I pulled clothing from KrelWear, Filthy Magic, Ema Savahl and my own closet of course. Jewelry was all provided by Charles Albert who I’ve worked with several times. Their pieces always put the perfect finishing touches on an outfit. McKenna wanted the Ema Savahl dress she wore in the 2nd row of images (middle shot), I think she almost had her mom convinced to purchase it for her for prom.
I took some behind the scenes photos in the early stages of the shoot before I started running around like a mad woman. I wish I’d gotten shots of all of the outfits. I just have skeleton photos for reference and those aren’t any fun.

I loved working with photographer Elise Donoghue, makeup artist Debra Macki, and hair stylist Johnny Diol. We had a lot of fun shooting. The other shoot I did for YBI isn’t out yet so I’m still looking forward to seeing how those images turned out.

Feeling So Free
A few months ago I had a back to back opportunity to work with fashion photographer Shamayim. The first shoot I blogged about but I never got around to editing the pictures and video from the second since I took so many. I still haven’t touched the video but I finally narrowed down the pictures for posting. The makeup artist for this shoot was Nikki Oxley who was so awesome. Not only is she a killer makeup artist, she’s also English so I got to hear her delightful accent for the entire shoot. I love accents.
We were shooting for new clothing line Zemen. Zemen was created by designer Rahel Bekele and is a modern take on traditional Ethiopian garments. Everything is handmade with amazing materials. When the line launches on 11.11.11 a portion of the proceeds will go towards organizations that micro-finance small loans to underprivileged women in Africa. Their website hasn’t launched yet, but you can of course check Zemen out on facebook to stay in the loop.
Whenever I style, I like to take photos for the blog to share with you guys. I took A LOT this shoot. I was kind of snap happy. So I narrowed it down. I really wanted to steal one of these dresses for myself. I can’t wait for the launch, they are absolutely amazing.
The photographer sent me a zip file of images I haven’t even gotten a chance to look at from both shoots so you may still see final images from this shoot pop up in my portfolio in the future. Oh and the model, it’s the fabulous Brittany DePriest. I’ve seen this girl come up so many times for shoots and either the shoot didn’t pan out or we went with a different model etc. I was really glad to finally get a opportunity to work with her. I really like her a lot personally and professionally. She was great. She’s all over target and Seventeen magazine too. Go Brittany! She’s signed with NEXT for anyone curious.
The second photo is a random shot I took with an extra piece of garment we were playing with. I should have pinned it in place but whatever we went with it.
